Money matters: who pays us, when, and for what
A guide that does not tell you how it earns is asking for blind trust. Here is the whole model, in plain words.
The one way we earn
When you send a room request through this site, our booking desk checks your dates and the rate with the hotel's reservations team or with a booking partner. If that request turns into a confirmed stay, the hotel or the booking partner that completes the reservation may pay us a commission. That is the only income this site is built on.
- You pay the rate the hotel or partner quotes. We do not add a fee.
- If the request does not become a stay, nobody pays anybody.
- We never take card details. Payment goes to the hotel or the partner, not to us.
What we do not have, as of November 2026
- No advertising. There are no ad networks on this site and no paid placements.
- No affiliate networks. We have not joined any booking affiliate programme, so there are no tracking links.
- No tracking scripts. No analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixels.
- No sponsored content. Nobody has paid for a page, a sentence or a verdict.
Buttons marked as going to the official site take you straight to star.com.au, with no tags added. If any of this changes, we will update this page first and date the change.
By day
During the day, the desk works through requests: one person, one inbox, emails to hotels and partners.
We answer the request whether or not it ends in a commission, because a guide that only answers profitable questions is not much of a guide.
By night
At night, the site is just pages. Nobody is watching what you read, because we have no way to.
The form is the only thing that sends anything anywhere, and only when you press the button.
Does the commission colour the reviews?
It could, which is why we tie every statement to a published source and print the weak points as plainly as the strong ones. Our verdict says who should skip this hotel. We would rather lose a request than send you to the wrong room.
