The verdict
Stay for the bay, the pool and the late nights; skip it if you want silence
We do not give stars. We tell you what the hotel is, what it publishes about itself, what we could check, and for whom it makes sense.
If you picture a hotel where you can walk out of a musical at 10.30pm, eat, and be in bed by midnight without touching a car, this is it. If you picture a hotel with a garden and nothing happening downstairs, it is not.
Where it is strong
Position on the bay
Pyrmont Bay Wharf, The Star light rail stop and the Pyrmont Bridge walk into Darling Harbour are all within a short walk. The hotel's own wording puts the CBD and the fish market about ten minutes away.
A pool that faces the harbour
The Level 5 pool is heated to 26°C and open from 6am to 9pm, which covers both a pre-breakfast swim and a late-afternoon one.
Something open at every hour
The Star says the complex runs 24/7. Fat Noodle and the Sports Bar are open around the clock; G&Tea in the lobby opens at 7am.
Room range
From two-bed twins to 146 m² duplex Royal Suites and apartments with three bedrooms, the same address covers couples, groups and families.
Where it is weaker
You share the building with a casino
The hotel itself warns that guests, including hotel guests, may face delays entering the casino at peak times. Even if you never go in, the complex is busy late, especially Friday to Sunday.
Few published details
Room sizes, floor levels and view guarantees are not on the hotel's pages, except for the Royal Suites. You may need to ask, and the answer can depend on the day.
Some dated wording
The Star Suite description still mentions an iPod dock and in-house movies. That may be old copy rather than old rooms, but we cannot tell from outside.
Costs that add up
Parking for hotel guests is $50 per night and valet is $85 to $95 (as listed on 1 November 2026); rollaway beds are $80 a night.
Who it suits
By day
Daytime visitors who want to walk: you get the harbour foreshore, the maritime museum and a light rail line that reaches Central and the fish market without changing.
Families in a residence, where a kitchen, two bathrooms and a balcony change the arithmetic of a city stay.
By night
Theatre and concert nights: the Sydney Lyric, the Foundry Theatre and the Sydney Event Centre are all in the complex.
Couples who want dinner, a show and a late drink in one building, then a suite with a bath.
What we could not confirm
- The year the rooms were refurbished. The hotel calls the Superior and Premium rooms 'newly designed' and gives no date.
- Which floors or categories face the harbour as a rule. Only the suite and residence names describe their views.
- A list of accessible rooms. The Star asks guests to call Reservations about rooms for special needs.
- How many reviews sit behind the 4.0 shown for the hotel on its Google Maps card on 31 October 2026.
The licence question, briefly
The casino in this complex operates while its licence is suspended, under a manager appointed under NSW law; on 25 September 2026 the regulator said his term runs to 30 June 2027. The hotel side runs as normal. We cover what that means for a guest, without drama, in a journal note.
If you decide to stay
Choose the room on the rooms page, read the house rules so the smoking and party policies do not surprise you, and send us your dates below. If The Darling next door sounds more like you, we compare the two.
